Gettysburg beats Frostburg 3-2 to pick up first win

Box Score

FROSTBURG, Md. – Freshman Greg Seldon (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson) came off the bench to score the game-winning goal in the 3-2 Gettysburg victory over Frostburg in non-conference men’s soccer action on Tuesday.

The Bullets took the lead from the beginning when freshman Pat Brown (Far Hills, NJ/Ridge) put the Bullets on the board in the ninth minute of the contest off a pass from David Pone (Bordenton, NJ/Bordenton). Pone assisted all three goals in the effort.

Pone set up Pete Kareha (Allentown, PA/William Allen), who connected on a corner kick in the 19th minute bringing Gettysburg ahead 2-0.

Frostburg’s Matt Moffa found the back of the net off an assist from Bryn Varhol in the 21st minute, but it wasn’t enough of a kick to bring the Bobcats back.

Seldon netted his first-career goal in the 61st minute off a pass from Pone putting the game away for the Bullets with a lead of 3-1.

Also scoring for Frostburg was Andrew Appelbaum in the final minutes of the contest off an assist from Eric Whisman.

The Bobcats outshot Gettysburg 17-12 and had a 14-4 corner kick advantage, but couldn’t convert on the opportunities.

In goal, Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock) tallied four saves, while Varhol and Tom Sadler combined for three saves in the losing effort.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday at St. Mary’s (Md.). Game time is 3:30 p.m.
