Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa.Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country School) netted 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Gettysburg to a 90-52 victory over Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s basketball action on Thursday.

Bengel became the eighth player - and only the second junior - in program history to record 1,000 career points after tallying her 15th point of the game with fewer than three minutes remaining in the first half. Bengel went 6-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Bengel is the third player in the last four years to accomplish the milestone, joining Dana Bear (2003-04) and Steph Drevna (2001-02). Bengel finished the night with 1,002 points.

Four other Bullets (8-5, 5-2 CC) registered double digits in the hosts’ 13th win over the Fords (3-8, 0-6 CC). Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) netted a season-high four 3-pointers for 12 points while Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) registered three out of four treys for 10 points.

Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew’s School [DE]) tallied 10 points with six boards and Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) also dropped 10 points.

Bea Chang led Haverford with 17 points and four boards.

Bengel opened the night's scoring with two free throws, giving the Bullets a lead they would not relinquish and starting a quick 23-2 run over the first seven minutes.

Despite a 7-0 run sparked by a trey from Meredith Foote with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Fords could not hold the Bullet offense at bay.

With Gettysburg ahead 53-20 at the half, Bengel and Eiden were already both in double figures while Falk and Marshall combined to hit 4 of 5 3-pointers.

Bengel ended the night's only other suspense by stepping to the free-throw line with 2:51 left in the first half and the Bullets leading 46-20. The junior swished both free throws, setting off a brief celebration that extended through a Gettysburg timeout.

Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) registered nine points and nine rebounds and Sam Pyzik (Westminster, MD/Mercy) grabbed six boards in the winning effort.
