Pa. Jen Bengel (Timonium,
MD/Roland Park Country School) netted 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Gettysburg to a 90-52 victory over Haverford
in Centennial Conference (CC) womens basketball action on Thursday.Bengel became the eighth player - and only the second
junior - in program history to record 1,000 career points after tallying her 15th
point of the game with fewer than three minutes remaining in the first half. Bengel
went 6-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Bengel is the third player in the last four years
to accomplish the milestone, joining Dana Bear (2003-04) and Steph Drevna (2001-02). Bengel
finished the night with 1,002 points.
Four
other Bullets (8-5, 5-2 CC) registered double digits in the hosts 13th
win over the Fords (3-8, 0-6 CC). Emily Falk (Boiling
Springs, PA/Boiling Springs)
netted a season-high four 3-pointers for 12 points while Jamie Marshall
(Pottsville, PA/Nativity
BVM) registered three out of four treys for 10 points.
Elizabeth
Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrews School [DE])
tallied 10 points with six boards and Katie Eiden
(Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) also dropped
10 points.
Bea
Chang led Haverford with 17 points and four boards.
Bengel opened the night's scoring with two free throws,
giving the Bullets a lead they would not relinquish and starting a quick 23-2
run over the first seven minutes.
Despite
a 7-0 run sparked by a trey from Meredith Foote with 13 minutes
remaining in the first half, the Fords could not hold the Bullet offense at bay.
With
Gettysburg ahead 53-20 at the half, Bengel and Eiden
were already both in double figures while Falk and Marshall combined to hit 4
of 5 3-pointers.
Bengel
ended the night's only other suspense by stepping to the free-throw line with
2:51 left in the first half and the Bullets leading 46-20. The junior swished
both free throws, setting off a brief celebration that extended through a Gettysburg

Hillary
Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty)
registered nine points and nine rebounds and Sam Pyzik
(Westminster, MD/Mercy) grabbed six boards in the
winning effort.
