Gettysburg's second-half run puts away Mules, 82-68

ALLENTOWN, Md.David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) led four players in double digits with 20 points to lead Gettysburg over Muhlenberg 82-68 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Saturday.

Mike Spadafora (Richboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) added 18 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Bullets (5-6, 2-2 CC), including nine points in a game-sealing second-half run.

Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) added 15 points and five boards while Matt Whelan (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield/Worcester Acad. [MA]) chipped in with a season-high 15 points as Gettysburg shot 57.7 percent from the floor.

Jeff Stewart paced the Mules (6-5, 3-1 CC) with 24 points, three rebounds and three blocks, while Tom Scott added 11 points and a team-high five boards.

The Mules turned an eight-point Gettysburg lead midway through the second half into a one-point deficit, but a 24-7 run sparked by a Fromm layup with 11:17 remaining gave the Bullets a comfortable advantage. Fromm had nine second-half points.

Stewart netted a trey to bring Muhlenberg within two with 10 minutes remaining, then dropped a layup after Glaser matched his 3-pointer, giving the Bullets a three-point advantage.

A Whelan jumper and a Fromm three-point play gave the Bullets an 11-point advantage with 7:36 to play in the second half.

Spadafora netted a layup with just over two minutes to play to give Gettysburg its biggest lead of the game at 78-58.

The Mules led once early in the game after a Stewart trey fewer than two minutes in. Spadafora then scored twice to give the Bullets a lead that they would never relinquish.

Muhlenberg registered 7-of-19 from beyond the arc, while Gettysburg found the net four out of 14 times. Stewart went 3-for-3 from the three-point line while Chris Pothering netted two. Pothering finished with 11 points and five boards.

Kyle Jakobe (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh/Peddie [NJ]) chipped in with eight points and four boards in the Bullets' second conference win of the season.

Gettysburg returns to conference action on Tuesday at home against Washington (Md.). Game time is 8 p.m.
