GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Christine Heerwagen’s
(Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) first collegiate
goal proved to be the game-winner as Gettysburg beat No. 20
Johns Hopkins 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on
Tuesday night.
The Bullets’ victory was the fourth consecutive
at Homewood Field, raising Gettysburg’s all-time record on
Johns Hopkins’ turf to 6-1 in CC play.
Heerwagen’s goal came 18 minutes and
22 seconds into the game on an assist from Erin Miller
(Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony’s). Heerwagen blasted
a ball from 10 yards out that curved under the top left corner.
Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES)
gave Gettysburg an insurance goal in the 76th minute. Myers
outran the Blue Jay defense to a ball that Kristin Igusky
(Sinking Springs, PA/Holy Name) cleared out of the
defensive end and buried it in the Johns Hopkins net. With
the score, Myers took the team lead in goals with five.
Kristin Short (Massapequa, NY/St.
Anthony’s) collected her fourth shutout of the season.
With the win, the Bullets knocked Johns
Hopkins from the ranks of the undefeated in the CC.
Gettysburg returns to action Saturday
at Muhlenberg. Game time is 1 p.m.
