Goddu picks up fifth game-winner in 3-0 win over Muhlenberg

Box Score

LANCASTER Pa. – Meg Goddu (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) collected her fifth game-winning goal of the season as Gettysburg topped Muhlenberg 3-0 in Centennial Conference field hockey action on Tuesday.

Maura Downey (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) sent in a cross that Goddu stole off the goalies pads and scored 40 seconds into the game. The goal would prove to be the game-winner for Gettysburg. Entering the game, Goddu was tied with Muhlenberg’s LisaAnn Polt for the conference lead in game-winning goals.

Downey gave the Bullets an insurance goal in the first half as a cross from Amy Morris (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr School) trickled through traffic in front of the cage. Downey was waiting on the back side of the goal and drove a shot into the left side of the net.

Bridget Seidel (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) had Gettysburg’s lone goal of the second half. Seidel’s initial shot was blocked, then Amy Schneider (Allentown, PA/Moravian Academy) had her put-back blocked before Seidel buried the ricochet.

With her fourth shutout of the season, Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) took a share of the conference lead in total shutouts.

Muhlenberg goalie Lauren Schram had 13 saves in the loss. Kate Moyer saved a goal on a defensive save in the first half for the Mules.

The Bullets held a 23-1 edge in shots and a 17-3 advantage in penalty corners.

With the win, Gettysburg remained unbeaten in the CC. No. 1 Ursinus is the only other unbeaten conference team.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at Washington College. Game time is 1 p.m.
