Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Becky Latta (West Chester, PA/Henderson) scored the game’s only goal early in the second half to propel 17th-ranked Gettysburg over Washington College 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.

Latta knocked in a loose ball for her fourth game of the season, helping the Bullets (10-3, 6-0 CC) run their winning streak to six games while remaining unbeaten in conference play. Latta finished with a team-high five of Gettysburg’s 15 shots on the afternoon.

Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, PA/Acad. of Notre Dame) made three saves to record her fifth shutout of the season.

Rachel Miller took four of the Shorewomen’s six shots while Erin O’Brien kept the hosts in the game with 11 saves.

Following a scoreless first half that featured 13 corners, but only seven combined shots, the Bullets struck 2 minutes, 8 seconds into the second frame.

Following Gettysburg’s first penalty corner of the second half, Erin Peyton made a defensive save on Bridget Seidel (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin), but Latta corralled the rebound and found the cage to make it 1-0.

O’Brien made four saves in the next four minutes to keep Washington within a goal and the Shorewomen escaped the Bullets’ final seven penalty corners of the game. Miller put back-to-back shots on Corkhill inside the seven-minute mark, but the Gettysburg keeper turned both aside to preserve the shutout.

Maura Downey (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) took three shots for the Bullets while Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston) and Meg Goddu (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville), the CC’s leading scorer, finished with two apiece.

Gettysburg returns to action on Sunday at home against Bryn Mawr. Game time is 1 p.m.
