EMMAUS, Pa. – Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) scored in the 82nd minute to snap a 2-all tie and lift Gettysburg over Muhlenberg 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Sunday.
The contest was postponed from Saturday and relocated from the Muhlenberg campus to Emmaus High School due to unplayable field conditions. After a 1-5-2 start to their season, the Bullets (6-6-2, 4-2-1 CC) have won five of their last six to reach the .500 mark.
Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Fanwood-Scotch Plains) and Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's Acad.) also scored for Gettysburg. Emily Burritt and Andrea Dello Russo found the net for the Mules (3-7-2, 2-4-1 CC).
Myers' game-winner – her fifth marker in the last five games – capped a wild second half in which the two teams alternated all five of the game's goals.
Heath opened the scoring before the second half was two minutes old, taking a pass from Myers and firing a shot into the left half of the net. Burritt answered in the 67th minute, tapping the ball into an open net to knot the game at 1.
The tie lasted exactly 16 seconds thanks to an unassisted blast from Ferraro, her fourth goal of the season. Dello Russo pulled the hosts even at 2 in the 77th minute, tipping in an end line cross from Katie Amari.
The Bullets, however, went ahead for good when Myers put home the rebound off a shot from Robin Friebur (Madison, NJ/Madison) with 8:45 remaining. Friebur started the game-winning play – and tallied her first collegiate point – by stealing Muhlenberg's clearing attempt.
Myers has recorded eight points in her last three games, giving her a team-high 15 for the season.
Dello Russo, Sara Gearin and Amy Schmidt all took two shots for the Mules.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday at home against Franklin & Marshall. Game time is 7 p.m.
