YORK, Pa. – Chris Ports scored
the game-winning goal in the 68th minute and Scott McDowell added
two goals in a five-minute span to lead 22nd-ranked York (Pa.) over Gettysburg
3-0 in non-conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday.
The Spartans (11-2-2) held a 17-6 shot advantage en route
to their seventh consecutive victory and second straight win over the Bullets
(6-5-3).
Garrett Bruno
(Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) and Mike Tirney (Springfield,
PA/Springfield) led Gettysburg with two shots apiece. Nick Wells-Bundtzen
(Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock) recorded eight saves in the loss.
Following a scoreless first half in which the Bullets survived
an 11-2 shot disparity, Ports connected on a direct kick with 22:24 remaining
to touch off a three-goal burst in a span of 7 minutes, 2 seconds.
McDowell knocked in rebounds in the 70th and 75th minutes – his
fifth and sixth goals of the season – to provide the hosts with insurance. Ryan
Davies and Andrew Wheeler picked up assists on the put-backs.
Kyle Marks turned aside the only Gettysburg shot
to go on net, teaming with Kyle Brooten for York’s fourth consecutive
shutout.
The Bullets return to action
on Saturday at home against Muhlenberg. Game time is 7 p.m.
