GETTYSBURG, Pa. –
Katie Myers' (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) overtime goal led Gettysburg to a 2-1 victory against Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
The win clinched the fifth consecutive CC playoff berth for Gettysburg. After a 1-5-2 start to their season, the Bullets (8-6-2, 6-2-1 CC) have won seven of their last eight games.
On Senior Day at Gettysburg, two seniors put Gettysburg on the board first, taking advantage of one of their three first half corner kicks.
Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's Academy) scored off a serve from
Kristin Igusky (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) in the 26th minute of the game. The goal was Ferraro's fourth of the season.
Haverford took advantage of a corner kick early in the second half. Hana Rosen headed the ball past Gettysburg goalkeeper
Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, NH/Trinity) in the 53rd minute. Rosen's goal was assisted by Cathy Carbanaro.
It took an overtime period to decide a game in which both teams had several scoring opportunities later in the second half.
Three minutes and 28 seconds into overtime,
Steph Smith (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) streaked down the right side and found teammate Myers waiting at the six-yard line. Myers punched it past Haverford goalie Lizzie Masland for the game-winner.
Myers goal in the 94th minute was her seventh in her last seven games. Myers has recorded 11 points in her last five games, giving her a team-high 19 for the season.
Myers took five shots and Ferraro took four shots to lead the Gettysburg offensive attack. Brittany Lattisaw had four shots for Haverford.
St. Pierre made seven saves to notch for the Bullets to notch her third win of the season while Masland made five saves for the Fords. For Masland, the loss was the first of her collegiate career.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at Dickinson. Game time is 12:30 p.m.
