GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Pat Brown (Far Hills,
NJ/Ridge) scored the game-winner with 1:16 remaining
in the second overtime as Gettysburg beat Muhlenberg 2-1 in
Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday night.
The Bullets (7-5-3, 4-1-2 CC) bounced back
from a non-conference loss at No. 22 York on Wednesday to
post a key conference victory and stay in playoff contention.
Muhlenberg dominated the first half offensively
with 11 shots to Gettysburg’s six. The Mules scored
first in the 20th minute of the game when Jonathan Kliewer
found Adam Milberg off a corner kick.
Milberg knocked it past Gettysburg goalkeeper
Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock)
for his third goal of the season.
Gettysburg bounced back in the second half
and caught a break in the 60th minute when Brandon Bell
(Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) was fouled in the
box. On the ensuing penalty kick, Garrett
Bruno (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.)
kicked the ball into the lower left corner of the net, scoring
his fourth goal of the season.
The physical game, which included a total of
44 fouls and seven yellow cards, could not be decided in regulation.
Following a scoreless first overtime, Gettysburg
won the game in the waning minutes. The ball came up
the left side and Chris Bayon (Langhorne, PA/Lawrenceville
School [NJ]) took a pass, fed it to the right side
of the box where Brown drilled home the game-winner in the
109th minute.
Wells-Bundtzen made a season-high 11 saves
in the game while Muhlenberg goalie Peter Bennett
made six stops.
Muhlenberg finished the game with 20 shots
and was led by James Henshaw with four and Brendan
Carroll and Kliewer with three each. Bell led the
Bullets with five shots.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at
McDaniel. Game time is 3 p.m.
