Goddu's overtime goal lifts Gettysburg over Dickinson, 4-3

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Meg Goddu (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) scored the game-winning goal 50 seconds into the first overtime to give Gettysburg a 4-3 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday.

Amy Morris (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr School) put the Bullets on the board first, scoring unassisted with 30 minutes and 52 seconds left in the first half.

The Red Devils knotted the score at one as Colleen Hoy collected her first of two goals on an assist from Erika Zavada. All three Dickinson goals came on penalty corners.

Gettysburg regained the lead before halftime when Goddu buried a loose ball in front of the Red Devil goal with 19 minutes and 59 seconds left in the first half.

The Bullets struck first in the second half, stretching their lead to two on an acrobatic finish from Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston) on a cross-goal feed from Goddu just seven minutes and 16 seconds into the period.

Dickinson tied the score at three in a second-half offensive flurry that produced two goals in as many minutes. Hoy picked up her secong goal on an assist from Meghan Hihn with 18 minutes and 10 seconds remaining in the half. Kate Austin tied the game at three as she struck a long shot directly from Hoy’s pass on the penalty corner that scored on the left side of the goal.

Goddu knocked in a pass from Bridget Seidel (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) 50 seconds into the first overtime period for the sudden death victory. Goddu struck Seidel’s assist just as it entered the arc, finding the Red Devil goal just inside the left post.

Goddu’s two goals on the day brought her season total to 20, two shy of Gettysburg’s singe season record.

Dickinson Goalie Kaitlin Harker finished with 12 saves.

Gettysburg held a 10-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at McDaniel. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
