Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Andy Rowek
scored the game-winner in the 20th minute and added an insurance goal in the 88th
minute to lead Dickinson past Gettysburg 2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) action
on Saturday.
The Bullets finish the regular season with a record
of 7-6-4 and a CC record of 4-2-3. Despite today’s loss, Gettysburg can
qualify for the CC playoffs with a Johns Hopkins win over Franklin & Marshall
tonight in Baltimore.
Dickinson (12-5, 5-4 CC) took advantage of
its first offensive opportunity of the game. Tim Fauquier took the
ball down the right side, crossed it into the middle and Rowek headed into the
bottom right of the net for the first half’s only goal. Gettysburg
senior goalkeeper Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock)
kept the game close, stopping three second-half shots.
The
Bullets controlled the ball in their offensive zone for much of the second frame.
They had seven corner kicks and took seven shots. However, the Bullets were unable
to put the ball past Red Devils goalkeeper Aaron Stemplewicz, who
made stellar diving saves on shots by Brandon Bell (Hagerstown, MD/North
Hagerstown) and Chris Bayon (Langhorne, PA/Lawrenceville School
[NJ]).
In the final minutes of the game,
Gettysburg subbed in goalkeeper Adam Finkel (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill)
to help with the offensive attack. However, the ball got loose and Rowek streaked
down the left side and scored into an empty net for his second goal of the day
and sixth this season.
Garrett Bruno (Harrisburg,
PA/Susquehanna Twp.), Jesse Gemberling-Johnson (Wyndmoor, PA/Christopher
Dock), and Brad Tabor (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) each took
three shots for the Bullets. Rowek led the Red Devils with four shots.
Stemplewicz
made seven saves to record his third shutout of the season.
