Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Kim Lowry
scored in the ninth minute and Michelle Mullen made 15 saves to
help McDaniel defeat Gettysburg 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s soccer
action on Wednesday. The Bullets
(3-6-2, 1-2-1 CC) fired 20 shots on the night, but couldn’t find the equalizer,
giving the Green Terror (5-5-1, 2-2-1 CC) only its second victory in 18 meetings
with Gettysburg. Kelly Burke (Greenwood Village, CO/St. Mary’s Acad.)
paced the Bullets with five shots.
Kelly
Neel assisted on Lowry’s game-winner while Jamie Janowich
recorded McDaniel’s only other shot of the contest.
Moments after Mullen’s first save of the night, the Green
Terror struck for the game’s only goal. Neel found Lowry to the right of the Gettysburg
net and the senior struck a shot past a diving Kristin Short (Massapequa,
NY/St. Anthony’s) to make it 1-0 just 8 minutes, 34 seconds into the match.
The Bullets carried the play the rest of the way, but Mullen
made Lowry’s goal stand up with a number of big saves. The Green Terror keeper
stopped a charging Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) on a diving
fingertip stop in the 22nd minute, one of seven saves before halftime.
Among her eight stops in the second half, Mullen snuffed
a sliding shot by Myers with fewer than 20 minutes remaining, then tipped a dangerous
attempt by Shaina Wright (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) over the crossbar
moments later. Mullen’s last save halted an attempt by Burke with 1:12 remaining.
Myers and Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's
Acad.) finished with four shots apiece.
Gettysburg
returns to action on Friday at home against Washington College. Game time is 7
p.m.
