CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) recorded a team-high nine kills and Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) posted a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs to lead Gettysburg over Washington College 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
Smith also knocked down four kills and led the team with five service aces, helping the Bullets (12-9, 5-2 CC) improve to 27-1 all-time against the Shorewomen (7-13, 0-4 CC).
Katie Heffner (Easton, PA/Easton) added six kills while Steph Vial (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) paced the defense with 14 digs.
Lauren Ford knocked down a team-high eight kills for Washington while Arielle Brown put up 24 assists. Katherine O'Brien added a team-high 11 digs in the loss.
Trailing 5-4 in the opening game, Gettysburg got a kill from Jayme Massey (Springfield, PA/Merion Mercy Acad.) and a Shorewomen ball-handling error to ignite a 14-3 run. Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) served back-to-back aces to make it 29-15 and a service error closed the Bullets' 30-20 victory.
Gettysburg never trailed while winning game two, 30-21. After Washington pulled within 7-6, the Bullets scored eight of the next 11 points to build a 15-9 lead. Two aces from Smith and kills by Prutzman and Erica Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pine Crest) keyed the run.
Gettysburg raced to an 8-3 lead in game three and cruised to a 30-19 victory, sealing the sweep.
The Bullets held a 17-1 advantage in service aces for the match, getting four from Vial and three from Hallahan.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday at home against Muhlenberg. Match time is 7:30 p.m.
