LANCASTER, Pa. – Garrett Bruno (Harrisburg,
PA/Susquehanna Twp.) snapped a scoreless tie in the 80th minute and Nick
Wells-Bundtzen (Willliamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock) made a season-high 10
saves to lead Gettysburg over Franklin & Marshall 2-0 in Centennial Conference
(CC) men’s soccer action on Sunday. Jesse
Gemberling-Johnson (Wyndmoor, PA/Christopher Dock) added an insurance
goal for the Bullets, who posted their third shutout in five conference games.
Wells-Bundtzen notched his fifth shutout of the year, a new single-season career
high.
With the game heading
toward overtime, Bruno took a cross from Cameron Bonfield (Princeton, NJ/The
Hun School) and fired a shot past Ed Steltz to put Gettysburg
(6-4-2, 3-1-1 CC) ahead 1-0 with 10:46 remaining. The goal was Bruno’s third of
the season.
Gemberling-Johnson
added his third goal of 2005 fewer than eight minutes later, lofting a 35-yard
shot into the cage to make it 2-0 with 3:17 left.
Wells-Bundtzen made the margin stand up, turning aside
all 10 shots that the Diplomats (3-4-3, 2-3 CC) put on net. F&M finished with
a 14-6 shot advantage on the afternoon.
The
Bullets return to action on Saturday at Washington College. Game time is 1 p.m.
