Gettysburg never trails in 68-61 win over Susquehanna

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) scored a game-high 22 points and added a team-high nine rebounds to lead Gettysburg past Susquehanna 68-61 in the consolation game of the Ramada Inn/King's Monarch Tournament on Wednesday.
 
With the win, the Bullets (4-6) snapped a four game losing streak, their longest since the 1997-98 season.
 
Gettysburg forward Mike Beck (Clearwater, FL/Clearwater) scored the first points of the game when he hit a 3-pointer 35 seconds into the first half. The Bullets did not trail the rest of the game.
 
Fromm scored 11 points in the first half and Mike Spadafora (Richboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) hit a jumper which built Gettysburg's largest lead of the game, 30-17, with 3:02 remaining.
 
Matt Effler hit two shots in the final two minutes and Susquehanna cut lead to seven points at the half, 30-23.
 
Early in the second half, Susquehanna got six points from Matt McDevitt who trimmed the Bullet lead to two, 33-31.  Then Gettysburg made three 3-pointers, two by Beck and one by Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, PA/Lower Merion), in the span of 1:20 to drive the lead back up to nine, 44-35.
 
Susquehanna proceeded to make a 16-7 run, started by a Sean Ulicny jumper. With 5:45 left on the clock, Brad Okonak ended the run with his basket, cutting the lead to 54-53.
 
Fromm hit two shots that helped the Bullets pull away, and Gettysburg held onto the lead by hitting seven free throws in the final three minutes of the game.

Renato Tambellini (Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) put the game away when his 3-pointer went in with 50 seconds remaining.
 
Spadafora was named to the all-tournament team for averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game during the tournament.
 
Beck finished the game with 13 points and Tambellini had 11 points for the Bullets. Zach Shedleski (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) scored a career-high six points in the win.

Effler led Susquehanna with 19 points and Okonak grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Crusaders.

The Bullets return to action on Jan. 4 when they host Hood. Game time is 7 p.m.
