ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Freshman Matt Shank (Reedsville, PA/Indian Valley) and sophomore Mike Pattanite (Tabernacle, NJ/Holy Cross) came up a win shy each of their first NCAA bids to lead Gettysburg to a seventh-place finish at the annual Centennial Conference (CC) wrestling championship on Saturday.

The Bullets finished with 28.5 points, nine full points behind sixth-place Kings Point.

Behind three individual champions, Ursinus won its third straight title and seventh overall with 89 team points. McDaniel finished second with 81.5 points.

At 141, the seeds held true with second-seeded Shank falling to No. 1 Mike Detsis (Stevens Tech). After a pair of decisions to get to the title bout, Detsis came out on the winning side of a 9-3 decision.

Shank opened his quest for a title in his rookie season with a 2-minute, 30-second pin of Muhlenberg's Joe DeCampo before notching a 10-2 major decision win over Johns Hopkins' Marco Priolo.

Shank finished the season with a 38-7 record with 15 pins – two wins and two falls shy of the program record.

Pattanite, the third seed, had his title hopes ended with a 1-minute, 41-second fall to top-seeded and two-time defending champion Drew Reinecker.

Pattanite opened his day with a pin of Ursinus' Willie Katinowsky in 3:21 before toppling No. 2 seed Dave DeGaravilla, 5-3.

At 197, Jeff Morgan (Reston, VA/Langley) was the Bullets' only other placewinner, finishing fourth. The fifth seed, Morgan dropped a 6-0 decision to Jared Allred (Ursinus) to open to the day.

With a pair of shutout wins in the consolation bracket, Morgan found himself in a rematch with Allred for third place, where Allred was on the winning side of a 3-2 decision.

Morgan defeated Justin Bain (Stevens Tech) 9-0 and Patrick Frain (Kings Point), 7-0.

At 174, Daniel Donnelly (Garden City, NY/Garden City), seeded fifth, opened his day with an 8-2 win over Kings Point's Troy McGinness before falling to top-seeded Kyle Capella (Ursinus), 12-7.

In the consolation bracket, Donnelly dropped a 7-5 sudden-victory decision to Jesup Sataloff (Washington & Lee).

At 133, Ray Cottiers (New Milford, NJ/New Milford) also fell a win shy of placing. In his opening match, Cottiers was pinned by No. 1 seed Brian Boland of Ursinus in 1:25.

In the consolation bracket, Cottiers defeated Johns Hopkins' Sam Anderson 10-3 before dropping a 7-3 decision to Stevens Tech's Pat Falvey.

At 157, sixth-seeded Tom Fives (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) opened his title quest with a 7-5 loss to Brian Saval (Muhlenberg) before making it 0-for-2 with a 6-3 loss to McDaniel's Mikey Blake.

Kyle Ibbitson (Dayville, CT/Killingly) also lost his only two matches at 165. Second-seeded Ryan Bennick of Stevens Tech pinned Ibbitson in 2:51 to start the day.

In the consolation bracket, Ibbitson fell to McDaniel's Greg Hammack, 9-8.

John Leinberger (Great Falls, VA/Langley) and Kevin Dougherty (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had their days end with a pair of pins.

At 184, Leinberger was pinned in the final minute of both of his bouts.

At 125, Dougherty fell in the first period of both matches, including to top seed and eventual champion Eddie Murray of Ursinus.
