Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Megan Shelley lead four players in double digits with a game-high 26 points to help 19th-ranked Dickinson defeat Gettysburg 86-83 and secure the top seed for the Centennial Conference (CC) playoffs in women’s basketball action on Tuesday.

Shelley scored 20 points in the second half – including the go-ahead jumper with 11:37 to go – helping Dickinson (23-2, 17-1 CC) to its program-record 23rd win and first win at Bream Gym since 1995. Despite the loss, the Bullets (13-12, 10-8 CC) hung on to the fifth seed for the CC playoffs and will play in the first-round game against No. 4-seed Swarthmore on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.

Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew’s School [DE]) led Gettysburg with her 12th double-double of the season, recording 24 points and 10 rebounds in the final home game of her career. She moved from ninth to seventh on the program’s all-time scoring list, passing Steph Drevna (1998-2002) and Jen Dravis (1994-98), finishing with 1,051 points.

Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country) added 22 points and six rebounds for the Bullets.

After Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) gave the Bullets their final lead at 62-61 on her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 13:47 left to play, the Red Devils went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good.

Patrice Johnson initiated the run with two free throws, giving Dickinson a one-point lead. After two empty Gettysburg possessions, Shelley connected on a jumper and then converted a 3-point play, giving the Red Devils an eight-point advantage.

Bengel kept the Bullets alive by netting a jumper off an assist from Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM), narrowing the margin to 76-73. Shelley, however, retaliated with a trey and hit a jumper to push the lead to 81-75 with 3:05 remaining.

Four points from Ross and a Bengel layup drew the hosts within 83-81 with 42 seconds remaining.

On the Red Devils’ next trip, Allyson Teatom, limited to 15 minutes due to foul trouble, made a crucial put back off a Jessica Howard miss to help make it a two-possession game. Down 84-81, Gettysburg had a final chance to tie the game, but a turnover derailed the possession.

Carly Onkotz and Howard hit free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the win.

Sparked by hot shooting, Gettysburg jumped out to a quick lead in the first half. Ross went 6-for-6 in the first half and didn’t miss a shot until the last 5 minutes, 31 seconds of the game, finishing 10-for-12.

Johnson and Laura Houseal each chipped in with 16 points and Onkotz added 11 for the Red Devils.

Falk was also in double figures for the Bullets with 17 points, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
