Box Score
GLASSBORO, N.J. – Kathy
Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park) recorded a game-high six points,
including the assist on Katie Hagan’s (Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara)
go-ahead goal with 8:45 remaining, to lift 12th-ranked Gettysburg over Rowan 11-8
in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday. Delauney
scored three goals and added three assists on the day, collecting the 100th point
of her collegiate career with a first-half, free-position goal. She finished with
105 career points, 25 shy of the program’s all-time top 10.
Katie
Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored twice and added one assist for
the Bullets (3-0), who were playing on the road for the first time in 2005. Quinn
Dougherty (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) sealed the win with
two goals in the game’s final four minutes.
Katie
Kline, Liz McGough and Caitlin Meseroll netted
two goals apiece for the Profs (0-1). Katherine Rowland made 12
saves while facing 34 Gettysburg shots.
Trailing
in the second half for the first time this season, the Bullets rallied with six
goals in the game’s final 18 minutes.
Following
goals by Katie Loomis and McGough that staked Rowan to a 6-5 lead,
Gettysburg answered with three goals in a span of fewer than three minutes.
Delauney tied the game at 6, completing her hat trick
with an unassisted marker at 42:47. Lowe set up Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern,
PA/Conestoga) 43 seconds later for a 7-6 Bullet lead before scoring an
unassisted goal to make it 8-6 with 14:25 remaining.
Maggie
Goodman pulled the Profs even with 9:37 left, scoring off a feed from
McGough to make it 8-7 and then setting up Meseroli after pulling out of a free-position
attempt.
Less than a minute later, Delauney found
a cutting Hagan and the sophomore found the back of the net to put Gettysburg
ahead to stay at 9-8 with 8:45 left. Dougherty finished a pass from Delauney for
an insurance goal with 3:30 remaining, then sealed the win with another goal in
the closing seconds.
Keyed by the first collegiate
goals from freshmen Jamie Giffuni (St. James, NY/Smithtown) and
Megan Moore (Chestertown, MD/Gunston Day School), the Bullets jumped
to a 5-2 lead.
A crease violation wiped out Gettysburg’s
apparent sixth goal, however, and Rowan took advantage of the momentum swing,
scoring four straight goals in a 13-minute span across the intermission to forge
a 6-5 lead.
Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga)
made eight saves for the Bullets, who were meeting the Profs for the first time
since 1987. Hagan and Shihadeh finished with one goal and one assist apiece.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday at Swarthmore. Game
time is 4 p.m.
