SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Katie Hagan (Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) and Kathy Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park) recorded a game-high five points apiece to lead eighth-ranked Gettysburg over Swarthmore 18-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Thursday.

Hagan posted her first collegiate hat trick and added two assists, helping the Bullets (4-0, 1-0 CC) open their 2005 conference schedule with the program’s 29th straight CC victory. Delauney also collected three goals and two assists, raising her team-high point total to 17 through the season’s first four games.

Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) added a hat trick and one assist for the three-time defending CC champions, who posted their 11th straight win over the Garnet (2-1, 0-1 CC) along with the largest victory margin in the teams’ 19-game all-time series. Cassidy Zappacosta (Monkton, MD/Maryvale Prep) dished out a career-high four assists in the win.

Katie Crawford scored Swarthmore’s lone goal of the afternoon while goalie Susannah Blair made nine saves.

The quartet of Hagan, Delauney, Shihadeh and Zappacosta did most of the damage in the first half, compiling eight goals and six assists to help Gettysburg build an 11-0 halftime lead.

Shihadeh opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in a span of two minutes. Delauney needed 64 seconds to score twice and set up Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place), pushing the visitors’ lead to 5-0 with only 7:39 gone.

After an eight-minute stretch with no scoring, Alexandra Ewing (Monkton, MD/Garrison Forest) found the net off of Zappacosta’s third assist and Jamie Giffuni (St. James, NY/Smithtown) made it 7-0 with her second goal of the season at 18:09.

Keyed by two unassisted goals from Hagan, the Bullets scored four more times to take an 11-0 lead into the intermission.

Defensively, Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) turned aside seven Garnet shots in the first half to temporarily preserve the shutout.

Gettysburg stretched the lead to 17-0 before Crawford converted a free-position shot with 11:30 remaining to end the shutout bid.
