MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple to help Gettysburg split on the final day of non-conference softball action at the Snowbird Invitational.
The Bullets fell to Avila University 10-4 in game one, but came back to defeat Alverno College 10-2 in game two, increasing their overall record to 7-2-1.
Shannon Kiry (Cinnamison, NJ/Cinnamison) picked up her fourth win of the season after going all six innings and allowing just four hits against Alverno.
In the second game, Sagaities got Gettysburg on the board by homering to lead off the second inning, her third home run on the week. Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) was hit by a pitch and scored off of three consecutive passed balls, closing the second with a 2-0 advantage.
After a scoreless third inning, the Bullet bats came alive in the fourth, scoring six runs on six hits.
Sagaities walked and was sent to second off a single to left field by Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) before scoring when Abbe Miller (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) singled past the shortstop.
An RBI single to right field by Meg Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) drove Dean home and gave Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) runners at first and third.
Pareso grounded a base hit past second base to score Miller and put herself and Gorsuch in scoring position.
Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) nailed a two-run triple down the left-field line to score Gorsuch and Pareso and give the Bullets an 8-1 lead after four innings.
Gettysburg scored two more runs on a sacrifice fly to centerfield from Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) and base hits from Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), Gorsuch and Pareso to end the game in the sixth inning. Gutermuth brought in the game-winning run with a single to left field.
After leading 4-2 in game one, the Bullets surrendered four unearned runs in the fourth inning to give Avila a lead that it would not relinquish.
After scoring a run in the first inning off singles from Gutermuth and Pareso, the Bullets came alive in the third.
Pareso singled past the shortstop, advanced to second on a Pilarcik sacrifice bunt and a Gale single to left field, then scored on a Gutermuth single to center field.
Sagaities brought both runners in with a triple to centerfield, giving the Bullets their final lead of the game, 4-2. It was Sagaities' sixth three-bagger of the week.
Pareso went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while pitching the first five innings.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday with a home doubleheader against Juniata. The first game starts at 2:30 p.m.
