Gettysburg’s opens CC slate with 10-4 win at Swarthmore; Renzi, Pryor net hat tricks

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Chris Renzi (Fairport, NY/Fairport) posted his first collegiate hat trick and Brian Pryor (Dallas, TX/St. Mark’s) also scored three times to lead 13th-ranked Gettysburg over Swarthmore 10-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s lacrosse action on Saturday.

Evan Gallant (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) added two goals and one assist, helping the Bullets (4-2, 1-0 CC) notch their 13th consecutive win over the Garnet (2-3, 0-1 CC) in the conference opener for both teams. Pat Vaughan (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) made eight saves, backstopping a defensive unit that held Swarthmore without a goal on six man-up opportunities.

Tim Chryssikos led the Garnet with two goals while Frank Mazzucco recorded 10 saves.

After Renzi and Chryssikos traded goals in a 1-1 first quarter, Gettysburg went ahead to stay with a three-goal second period.

Chase Stewart (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) fed Pryor 51 seconds into the quarter to make it 2-1 and Gallant converted the first collegiate assist from Andrew Mavraganis (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) less than two minutes later. After John Charles cut the Bullet lead to 3-2, T.J. Liberto (Arnold, MD/St. Mary’s) finished a solo move to restore the visitor’s two-goal lead heading into halftime.

Chryssikos sliced the margin to 4-3 with an unassisted goal 2:14 into the third quarter, but Swarthmore would get no closer.

Renzi, who also won 9 of 15 face-offs, struck twice in a span of 1 minute, 12 seconds, pushing the lead to 6-3 with 6:13 left in the third quarter and sparking a 6-1 Gettysburg run over the rest of the game.

Pryor sealed the win with two more goals in the final period, completing his third hat trick in the last four games. Stewart added his team-leading 14th goal of the season to close out the scoring.

Mavraganis, recently installed on the Bullets’ second line of attacking midfielders, finished the day with two assists. Brian Ford (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) also recorded an assist in the win.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at Muhlenberg. Game time is 7 p.m.
