Bullets blitz Bears for 30th straight CC victory; Lowe scores 100th career point

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Kathy Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park) scored a season-high five goals and Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) collected her 100th career point to lead eighth-ranked Gettysburg over Ursinus 17-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Saturday.

Delauney nearly hit a milestone of her own, finishing the day with 99 career goals. Lowe tallied point No. 100 with a goal midway through the first half, helping the Bullets (6-1, 2-0 CC) build a 10-2 halftime lead en route to their sixth straight win over the Bears (1-3, 1-1 CC). Lowe finished with two goals, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) and Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) added two goals and one assist apiece for Gettysburg, which extended its conference-record winning streak to 30 games. The Bullets’ last CC loss was a 16-11 set-back to Ursinus on Mar. 23, 2002.

Ashley Ettinger paced the Bears with two goals and one assist.

Gettysburg used a 19-shot, 10-goal first half to take command.

Delauney opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 2:29. Moments after Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) stopped a free-position attempt by Lindsay Givens, Shihadeh scored off a feed from Kelly to make it 2-0.

Delauney scored again for a three-goal lead before Ettinger put Ursinus on the board with an unassisted marker at 11:11. Delauney’s free-position goal minutes later made it 4-1 and touched off a 6-0 Bullet run.

Sixty-nine seconds after Delauney completed her hat trick, Lowe scooped a broken clearing attempt and scored to register the 100th point of her collegiate career. Quinn Dougherty (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) set up Cassidy Zappacosta (Monkton, MD/Maryvale Prep) to make it 6-1 and force a Bear timeout with 12:27 left in the half.

Kelly followed with both of her goals in a span of 10 seconds, pushing the lead to 8-1. Shihadeh scored off a feed from Elyse Goldweitz (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) to cap the six-goal burst with 3:30 left before the intermission.

Logan Conklin snapped Ursinus’ 15-minute, 56-second scoring drought off an assist from Ettinger. Dougherty converted a free-position goal with 13 seconds left to give Gettysburg a 10-2 halftime lead.

The Bullets extended the lead into double digits by scoring three times in the first 3:33 of the second half. Gettysburg’s final goal of the day – scored by Lowe with 1:52 left – came via the first collegiate assist and point from freshman Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston).

Kelley finished with nine saves before giving way to Susan Meyers (Ridgewood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Acad.) with 7:23 remaining. Jamie Giffuni (St. James, NY/Smithtown) scored one goal and added one assist in the win.

Natalie Schroeter also scored for the Bears.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at Franklin & Marshall. Game time is 4 p.m.
