GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) each pitched complete games to help Gettysburg sweep Juniata in non-conference softball action on Thursday.
Kiry (4-0) pitched a three-hit shutout to help the Bullets (9-2-1) defeat the Eagles (6-8-1) in game one 2-0 while Pareso (2-2) tallied five strikeouts and allowed five hits in the nightcap victory 5-1.
In game one, Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) got the Bullets on the board ripping a triple to right field and then scoring the only run they would need after Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) hit and reached on a fielder's choice.
Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) hit an RBI-single to score Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves), who walked and then stole second.
Juniata had the bases loaded in the seventh inning, after singles from Allison D'Ambrosia and Marcie White, but two strong defensive plays from the Bullets kept them off the board.
Gutermuth went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Sagaities went 1-for-2 – hitting her seventh triple of the season – with one run scored.
In the nightcap, Gettysburg tallied nine hits to defeat Juniata 5-1.
The Bullets used the third inning to get ahead for good, scoring three runs on three hits.
Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) started it off with an infield single and advanced on a Gale sacrifice bunt. Gutermuth drilled a triple to left field to score Pilarcik. Sagaities brought Gutermuth home hitting her ninth three-bagger of the season out to right field.
With one out, Ali Stoll (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) grounded out to second base, but drove Sagaities home. Gettysburg closed the inning with a 3-0 advantage.
The Bullets scored two more runs in the fifth. Pilarcik hit another infield base hit and Gale pushed her to second with a base hit to centerfield. Gutermuth sent the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, then Stoll recorded a two-RBI base hit left field, scoring Pilarcik and Gale.
Gutermuth went a perfect 2-for-2 with a triple, one run scored and an RBI while Pilarcik went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Stoll recorded a game-high three RBIs in game two.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Muhlenberg. The first game starts at 1:00.
