GETTYSBURG, Pa.Brian Spicer (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) struck out 10 batters, pitching the full nine innings of the nightcap of a doubleheader to give Gettysburg a split with Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Sunday.

For the second day in a row, the Bullets (12-14, 5-3 CC) matched a season high with 14 hits in game two, taking a 7-2 victory after the Fords (16-11, 6-2 CC) were victorious in the opener, 4-1.

Jimmy McNamara (Webster, NY/Webster) led four Gettysburg players with multiple-hit outings in the second game, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI, and run scored.

Spicer went the distance for just the second time this season to improve to 2-2, setting a new single-game season high in strikeouts for any Bullet pitcher this season. Donny Poster, who lasted just an inning and two-thirds, allowed four runs on six hits to pick up his third loss of the season for Haverford.

Ryan Frankel pitched the full seven innings of the opener for Haverford, notching four strikeouts to improve to 2-0. Ross Hempel (Marriottsville, MD/Glenelg) lasted the whole game for Gettysburg on the hill, allowing seven hits and two earned runs to fall to 4-3.

After being shut out in the first eight innings of game one, the Bullets jumped on the board early in game two, plating three runs in the first, one in the second and two in the third to stake a 6-0 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the first, McNamara and Joe Bonyai (Torrington, CT/Hotchiss School) sent back-to-back singles through the right side.

After an infield fly out, Michael Donohue (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) followed suit and pushed a single through the same gap to plate McNamara from second.

Austin Ball (Farmingdale, NY/Hills East) walked to load the bases and Ben Carey (Colchester, CT/St. Bernard) reached on an infield single to score Bonyai. Donohue also trotted home on a throwing error that went out of play for a 3-0 advantage.

With one out in the second, Sean McGee (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) and McNamara laced back-to-back doubles to left to make it 4-0.

After a groundout moved McNamara to third, Brian Pernice (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) drew a two-out walk to chase Poster after just 13 batters.

Steve Zyman came on in relief and got a fly ball to left to get the Fords out of further trouble.

Ball led off the home third, reaching on an error before Carey went up the middle to put runners at first and second with nobody out.

A wild pitch moved both up a base before Chase Straub (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) sent a ball through the left side to plate Ball for the 5-0 lead.

A delayed steal allowed Carey to score before Zyman got an inning-ending double play lineout.

Haverford got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth when John Oh led off with a single down the left-field line, stole second, advanced to third on a one-out balk and scored on sacrifice fly.

A leadoff triple by Mike Primiani and an RBI groundout pulled the Fords to within 6-2 after four-and-a-half innings.

The Bullets tacked on a single run in the eighth when McGee, who entered the day with one extra-base hit, ripped his second double of the game into left field. McNamara followed with a bloop single to put runners at the corners.

Bonyai followed with a double into the right-field corner, scoring McGee to set the final margin.

Carey went 3-for-5 in game two with an RBI and run scored while McGee and Bonyai both tallied two-hit outings.

In the first inning of the opener, Oh drilled a one-out triple to the fence in center before Tim McLean reached on an error, allowing Oh to score.

After Ben Einbinder singled to center to put at first and second, Ryan Stephens make it back-to-back one-baggers to score McLean, but Hempel got an inning-ending line-out double play.

Already leading 2-0 after two innings, Oh doubled to left to lead off the Ford third.

A McLean single put runners at the corners before Einbinder flew out to deep left to plate Oh and make it 3-0 on the sacrifice.

Hempel retired 12 of the next 13 batters before Ben Field reached on an error to lead off the visitor seventh.

Field stole second before a Jonathan Debrich sacrifice moved him to third. A Brendon Mills RBI groundout gave the Fords a 4-0 advantage.

Gettysburg – down to its final out – got a McNamara single up the middle and Dave Olson (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) RBI single to the left-center gap to avoid being shut out for the first time this season.

Oh went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Haverford in the opener.

The Bullets return to action at Dickinson on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
