Heavy hitting helps Bullets sweep Hood

GETTYSBURG, Pa.Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) went 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored to help Gettysburg take two from Hood College 11-1 and 10-2 in non-conference softball action on Friday.

The Bullets (17-4-1) tallied a total of 21 runs on 25 hits, with 10 runs scored in the third inning of game one.

Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) picked up her ninth win, striking out seven of the 13 batters she faced and allowing one unearned run in three innings of work.

Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) nabbed her fifth-straight win in the nightcap, allowing no hits and striking out three in three innings.

Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in game two, hit the game-ending RBI-single.

In the opener, the Bullets caught fire with the score tied at one going into the bottom of the third.

Pilarcik leadoff with base hit to centerfield before Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) hit a groundball single to left field.

With one out, Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) cracked a two-RBI single to left field, plating Pilarcik and Gale.

Abbe Miller (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) then sent a base hit out to left field and advanced to second on the throw, sending Eiden to third before Megan Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) ripped a double out to right field to plate Miller and Eiden.

Molly Myer (Springvale, ME/North Yarmouth Academy) laid down a bunt that earned her a basehit and sent Gorsuch to third, who then scored on one of three Hood errors.

With two outs, Pareso hit a base hit to left field before she and Myer both stole a base, setting Pilarcik up with runners at second and third.

Pilarcik then ripped her second career home run over the left field fence, plating three runs for the Bullets and giving them an 8-1 advantage.

Gettysburg plated two more runs before the third out was called. Gale reached on an error and was brought home off a Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) triple to right field. Eiden plated Sagaities with double to left field, closing the inning with an 11-1 margin.

In the nightcap, the Bullets scored in every inning but the first.

In the bottom of the sixth with a 6-2 lead, Pareso singled with one out before Pilarcik reached on a Blazer error. Gale ripped a triple to right centerfield, scoring Pareso and Pilarcik. Gutermuth then nailed the game-ending base hit to right field, plating Gale and closing the game with a score of 10-2.

Pareso went 4-for-7 with three runs, a double, triple and RBI on the day while Miller was 3-for-3 with a double and a run in game one.

Gorsuch went 4-for-6 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Gettysburg returns to action at home with a doubleheader tomorrow against Swarthmore. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
