Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Alexandra Ewing (Monkton, MD/Garrison Forest) recorded a career-high four points and Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) scored three goals to lead sixth-ranked Gettysburg past Haverford 14-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Saturday.

Ewing needed a span of little more than 15 minutes to score twice and hand out two assists, helping the Bullets (11-3, 7-1 CC) clinch one of the top two seeds in the CC playoffs. Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) and Kathy Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park) chipped in with three points apiece as Gettysburg posted its 11th consecutive win over the Fords (8-6, 3-4 CC).

With her three-point day, Delauney moved into a tie for 10th on the program’s all-time points list, matching Kris Nagy’s 130 career points from 1990-93.

Margaret Sampson, the conference’s leading goal scorer, found the net twice for Haverford, increasing her season total to 48 goals. Katherine Johnson and Jody Mayer also scored for the Fords while goalie Jen Weitz made 10 saves.

Delauney opened the scoring 48 seconds into the game and Katie Ceglarski (Darien, CT/Darien) struck off a feed from Quinn Dougherty (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) minutes later. Shihadeh netted the first of her three goals off a pass from Delauney at 9:12 to make it 3-0.

Sampson converted a free-position attempt to put Haverford on the board at 12:01, but Kelly responded with an 8-meter goal of her own on the Bullets’ next possession. Shihadeh made it 5-1 off an assist from Kelly before Johnson finished a solo move for the Fords’ second goal of the day at 21:58.

Gettysburg outscored Haverford 7-0 over the next 26 minutes, 51 seconds to take charge.

Ewing started the run, finishing in transition off a pass from Ceglarski at 23:15. Delauney and Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored 34 seconds apart to make it 8-2 at halftime.

Ewing had a hand in the first three goals of the second half, scoring unassisted at 35:23, and assisting Jen Betts (Potomac, MD/Acad. of the Holy Cross) and Shihadeh in a span of 11 seconds to give the Bullets’ an 11-2 edge.

Lowe capped the run with her second goal of the day at 42:23. A goal by Jennie Howell (Huntington, NY/Huntington) and the first collegiate marker from fellow freshman Sam Pyzik (Westminster, MD/Mercy) closed out the Gettysburg scoring in the final minutes.

Cassidy Zappacosta (Monkton, MD/Maryvale Prep) finished with two assists for the Bullets while Laurie Goon (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) paced the defense with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
