GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) and Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) each went 4-for-6 on the day to help Gettysburg sweep Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
The Bullets (19-4-1) stretched their winning streak over the Garnet (8-20, 2-6) to 10 with an 8-0 win in the opener and a 10-2 nightcap victory.
Gale tallied a clutch triple in game two, four runs and five RBIs on the day while Gutermuth scored three runs and collected six RBIs.
Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) picked up her 10th win of the season after allowing no runs on two hits in four innings of work. Meghan Howlett (Millsboro, DE/Milford) collected the final three outs of the five inning game.
Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) kept her win streak alive in the nightcap, allowing one earned run on four hits and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
After a slow start in the night cap, the Bullets rallied behind 13 hits – five in the five innings – to complete the sweep.
Leading 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth with one out, Abbe Miller (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) nailed a base hit to left centerfield before Kiry advanced her with a sacrifice bunt.
Megan Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) hit an RBI-single to left centerfield to score Miller. Pareso then ripped a double to right center, sending Gorsuch to third.
Pilarcik was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Gale and Gutermuth's heroics. With two outs, Gale drilled a tripled out to the left field fence, emptying the bases and giving the Bullets a 9-2 advantage.
In the next at bat, Gutermuth hit the game-winning RBI-single out to right centerfield to score Gale and end the game in five innings.
Pareso went 3-for-4 with four runs scored with Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) went 2-for-3, crossing the plate once.
The team picked up its eighth shutout of the season after tallying eight runs on nine hits in the opener.
Eiden, Gorsuch and Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) each went 1-for-2 in game one. Gorsuch and Dean both scored once, while Eiden drove in three runs in the win.
