Gettysburg sweeps Franklin & Marshall; Pilarcik hits home run

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) allowed two hits in game one while Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) hit a home run in game two to help Gettysburg sweep Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Tuesday.

 

The Bullets (23-4-1, 9-1 CC) kept their conference winning streak alive at six with the 8-0 win in the opener and 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

Kiry went four innings, allowing no runs and striking out three while Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) picked up her eighth straight win in the nightcap, recording six strikeouts.

Meghan Howlett (Millsboro, DE/Milford) pitched in relief in each game, pitching five innings with one run allowed and three strikeouts.

Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs in the opener while Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the nightcap.

Gettysburg recorded 13 hits in game one, scoring five runs in the first two innings.

Pareso lead off in the first with a walk before Pilarcik sent her to second with her 17th sacrifice bunt this season.

Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) dropped a base-hit bunt, advancing Pareso to third. Gutermuth nailed a double to right center, plating Pareso and Gale. Sagaities then ripped a two-bagger to center field to score Gutermuth.

In the second, Pilarcik drove in two runs with a base hit to centerfield after Pareso singled and Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) reached on a fielder's choice.

In the nightcap, the Bullets survived six errors and being out hit 7-6 by the Diplomats.

After a scoreless first inning, Gutermuth led off with a walk before Sagaities reached on a base-hit bunt. Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) reached on one of F&M's four errors.

With one out, Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) reached on a Diplomat error which scored both Gutermuth and Sagaities.

With a 5-0 lead in the sixth inning, Hallahan reached on an error before Pareso advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Pilarcik ripped her second homer this season over the left field fence to give the Bullets a 7-0 advantage going into the seventh.

The Diplomats scored their only run after Laura DePalma hit a triple to left center field and scored on a Bullet error with two outs.

Gettysburg returns to action with a doubleheader Thursday at Susquehanna. The first game starts at 3:30 p.m.
