GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Cristi
Farrell (Broomall, PA/Acad. of Notre Dame) netted a career-high four goals
as eighth-ranked Gettysburg scored 15 times in the first half of a 24-2 victory
over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Saturday.
Farrell also dished out an assist to finish with five
points as the Bullets (7-2, 3-1 CC) bounced back from their first conference loss
in more than three years, an 8-7 set-back at Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday.
Quinn Dougherty (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) added her
first collegiate hat trick to help Gettysburg post its seventh straight win over
the Shorewomen (3-7, 1-3 CC).
Jenn
Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) handed out two assists on the day and
was one of six other Bullets to score twice. For the game, Gettysburg outshot
Washington, 47-4.
Megan
Block tallied both goals for the Shorewomen while Lindsey Eichner
added her conference-leading 20th assist of the year.
With a cold, steady rain falling throughout the game, the
Bullets scored early and often to get back in the win column.
Dougherty needed 66 seconds to make it 2-0, scoring off
feeds from Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and Farrell on
Gettysburg’s first two possessions. The Bullets forced five straight broken clears
before Megan Moore (Chestertown, MD/Gunston Day School) scooped
up the ground ball of her own miss and scored for a 3-0 lead.
All-America defender Kate Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton)
finished a half-field run for her fourth collegiate goal at 6:12 and Kelly followed
with a goal 27 seconds later to make it 5-0. The Bullets extended their edge to
9-0 after a marker by Jamie Giffuni (St. James, NY/Smithtown) at
14:12.
Block put Washington on the
board with an unassisted goal off the ensuing draw control, but Alexandra
Ewing (Monkton, MD/Garrison Forest) converted a free-position attempt
to touch off a 6-0 Gettysburg burst to the end of the half, making 15-1 at the
break.
Kelley Mishler (Moorestown,
NJ/Moorestown) scored her first goal of the season and Krissy Browning
(Baldwin, MD/Fallston) added the first of her collegiate career to highlight
the Bullets’ nine-goal second half.
Katie
Ceglarski (Darien, CT/Darien) led Gettysburg with six ground balls while
Farrell and Lowe each collected a team-best three draw controls.
The Bullets set season highs for goals (24), shots (47), ground
balls (50) and shooting percentage (.511) in the win. The 20-goal victory margin
was the second-largest in the 23-game series between the two programs, trailing
only Gettysburg’s 29-4 win in 1986.
The
Bullets return to action on Tuesday at home against Dickinson. Game time is 4:30
p.m.
