GETTYSBURG,
Pa. – Katie Ceglarski (Darien, CT/Darien) set career highs with
four goals, four assists and eight points as seventh-ranked Gettysburg erupted
for 15 first-half goals in a 23-7 non-conference victory over Cabrini on Tuesday.
A freshman midfielder who entered the day with 16 career
points, Ceglarski was one of four Bullets with hat tricks and one of five with
at least four points on the afternoon. In addition to her eight-point outing –
the highest by a Gettysburg player this season – she also recorded five ground
balls and four draw controls as the Bullets (13-3) wrapped up the 2005 regular
season with a resounding win.
Kathy
Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park) added three goals and two assists
for the Bullets, who open the Centennial Conference (CC) playoffs on Saturday
against Ursinus in Lancaster. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place), Cassidy
Zappacosta (Monkton, MD/Maryvale Prep) and Alexandra Ewing (Monkton,
MD/Garrison Forest) chipped in with four points apiece, helping Gettysburg
surpass the 20-goal mark for the third time this season.
April Kaufmann and Emilie Greto each
scored twice for the Lady Cavaliers (10-6), who will defend their eight consecutive
Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships next week. Greto also led Cabrini
with six draw controls and four ground balls.
Following
an early exchange of goals, the Bullets ran away and hid.
Gettysburg never trailed after Ceglarski scooped a rebound and
scored to make it 2-1 with fewer than five minutes gone, the first of six unanswered
Bullet goals. Zappacosta sprung Kelly for a breakaway goal seconds later and Kelly
scored again off an assist by Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville)
for a 4-1 lead.
Ellie Shihadeh
(Malvern, PA/Conestoga) followed with the second of her three goals and
Zappacosta finished back-to-back solo runs to make it 7-1 with 19:00 left in the
first half.
Kerri Ricker
halted the run off an assist by Katelyn Penrose, but the Lady Cavaliers
wouldn’t score again for a span of nearly 29 minutes. In the interim, Gettysburg
netted the final eight goals of the first half and the next 12 goals overall.
Ceglarski had a hand in seven goals during the 12-0 run, scoring
three times and handing out four assists, including three in a row on goals by
Katie Hagan (Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) and Ewing to open the second
half. Delauney’s goal with 19:02 remaining gave the Bullets their largest lead
of the day at 19-2.
Kate Murphy
(Wilton, CT/Wilton) led Gettysburg with three caused turnovers and matched
Ceglarski with five ground balls. Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga)
recorded five saves while allowing only three goals in 46 minutes of work.
Kelly finished with her third hat trick of the season and became
the first Bullet with at least 20 goals and 20 assists this season (24 goals,
20 assists).
