Sagaities, Eiden help Gettysburg sweep Haverford; Bullets pick up first conference wins

GETTYSBURG, Pa. Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) and Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) went 2-for-3 in opposite games to help Gettysburg pick up two wins in its Centennial Conference (CC) softball opening doubleheader on Saturday.

Sagaities recorded both a double and a triple, tallying two runs and one RBI in the Bullets' (14-3-1, 2-0 CC) game one 7-4 win while Eiden hit a double, scored a run and notched an RBI in the 4-1 nightcap victory.

Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) went the distance on the mound in the opener, allowing two earned runs and retiring three to pick up her eighth victory of the season.

Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) – who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning – pitched her fifth complete game, giving up three hits and striking out four.

Gettysburg used back-to-back two-run innings to secure the lead in the opener.

After a scoreless first, Sagaities started off the second by ripping a double down the right field line. Eiden advanced Sagaities to third on a sacrifice bunt before Abbe Miller (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) hit an RBI single past the shortstop to score Sagaities.

Megan Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) reached on one of Haverford four errors that game, advancing Miller to second before they both moved up a base on a pass ball. Miller scored on another Ford error, closing the inning with a 2-0 Gettysburg advantage.

The visitors put one run on the board after Sarah Szarkowski doubled to left field and scored on a Bullet error.

Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) led off the home team's third inning with a walk before Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) dropped down a sacrifice bunt and advanced her to second.

Sagaities drilled her ninth triple of the season out to centerfield, scoring Pilarcik before scoring on her own off another Haverford error.

Gettysburg scored three more runs in the sixth off singles from Gorsuch and Dean and RBI sacrifices from Pilarcik and Gale.

The Bullets took a one-run lead into the bottom of the sixth inning in the nightcap before scoring three runs on three hits and one Ford error to complete the sweep of Haverford.

Gale doubled to lead off the inning and Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) reached on an error, advancing Gale to third. Sagaities sent Gale home with a sacrifice fly to center field then Eiden ripped and RBI double to left center field, scoring Gutermuth. Miller followed suit, blooping an RBI single past the shortstop to give the Bullets a 4-0 lead.

Miller went 3-for-6 on the day with two RBIs and one run scored while Pilarcik went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Haverford's Lindsey Sullivan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Gettysburg returns to action with a doubleheader on Tuesday at Dickinson. The first game begins at 5 p.m.
