GENEVA, N.Y. – Laura Burnette-Kurie scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute to lift William Smith over Gettysburg at the Heron Cup on Saturday.
The Bullets created opportunities late in the second half. Erin Miller (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) forced Heron goalie Nikki Dudley to make her first save of the day in the 74th minute. Less than two minutes later, Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) got off a shot that sailed high.
Gettysburg's last opportunity to even the score came on a shot with fewer than four minutes remaining. Katie Yamamoto (Hollis, NH/Hollis-Brookline) forced Dudley to make her second and final save of the contest to preserve her shutout.
In the goal for the Bullets, Kristin Short (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) made six saves, including four in the second half.
Gettysburg returns to action on Sunday against No.12 Union in Geneva, NY. Game time is 11 a.m.
