Box Score
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Mimi Sullivan
scored the only goal of the game on a breakaway in the opening four minutes to
lift 12th-ranked Lebanon Valley over No. 16 Gettysburg 1-0 in non-conference field
hockey action on Thursday. Sullivan’s
goal and a season-high nine saves from Katie Pawlewicz were enough
to extend the Flying Dutchmen’s winning streak against the Bullets (4-3) to six
games. At 7-1, LVC is off to its best start since a 14-0 beginning to the 2000
campaign.
Meg Goddu (Chadds
Ford, PA/Unionville) recorded a game-high six shots for Gettysburg, which
held a 10-6 edge in shots and a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners, but was shut
out for the third time in as many road games this season.
Sullivan gave the hosts all the scoring they would need,
breaking down the left side and dribbling around a sliding Katherine Corkhill
(Paoli, PA/Acad. of Notre Dame) before firing into an empty cage just
3 minutes, 31 seconds into the contest.
The
Bullets fired six of the game’s eight second-half shots, but Pawlewicz maintained
the shutout with a little help from Mallary Anderson’s defensive
save with 12 minutes remaining.
Gettysburg
returns to action and opens its Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday at
home against Swarthmore. Game time is 1 p.m.
