SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Danielle Tocchet tied the game early in the second half and Lauren Walker made 14 saves to help Swarthmore preserve a 1-1 tie with Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) scored the only goal of the game for the Bullets (1-5-2, 0-1-1 CC), who outshot the Garnet 27-6 on the night, but were unable to break into the conference win column. Heath fired a team-high six shots while
Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's Acad.) and
Colleen Stuart (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) added five shots apiece.
Following a 9-1 shot advantage throughout the first half, Heath netted her second goal of the season with 56 seconds left before the break to make it 1-0.
Tocchet answered in the 50th minute, scoring off a corner-kick assist from Natalie Negrey to tie the score at 1.
The Bullets registered 17 shots after halftime, but Walker recorded nine saves during that span to preserve the deadlock, only Swarthmore's third non-losing result in the 18-game series (2-15-1).
Negrey finished with a team-high three shots for the Garnet (2-5-2, 0-1-1 CC).
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at home against Elizabethtown. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
