Men place ninth, women 11th at George Washington Invitiational

CENTREVILLE, Va. – Andy Carmer (Parkton, MD/Dulaney) finished 22nd overall to lead the Gettysburg men’s cross country team to a ninth-place finish in the George Washington Invitational at Bull Run Regional Park on Saturday.

In the women’s race, Brett Jackson (Arnold, MD/Archbishop Spalding) finished first for the Bullets and 43rd overall as the women’s cross country team finished 11th in the 12-team field.

Carmer’s time of 26:48 for the 8K event led all Gettysburg runners. Eric Dunklee (Barton, VT/St. Johnsbury Academy), Frank Hoban (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore), Kevin Lawrence (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) and Chris Magette (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Bullets.

Jackson’s 25:02 in the 6K women’s race earned her first finish as the top Gettysburg runner this year. The next four Bullets to finish behind Jackson were Barb Creveling (Easton, PA/Easton), Christine Burke (Springfield, PA/Springfield), Anna Markowitz (Macungie, PA/Macungie) and Becca Zabel (Frederick, MD/Urbana).

Bucknell’s men’s and women’s cross country squads swept both events.

Gettysburg returns to action this Saturday at the Dickinson Invitational.  Race times for the women are 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., and 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. for the men.
