Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Meg Goddu (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) posted her third hat trick of the season to lead 18th-ranked Gettysburg over Johns Hopkins 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.

Goddu scored twice in the game’s first 10 minutes, then again early in the second half to help the Bullets (6-3, 2-0 CC) improve to 6-0 at home this season. Through nine games, Goddu’s 13 goals already matches her career-high mark from a year ago.

Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston), Lauren Eby (Denver, PA/Garden Spot) and Becky Latta (West Chester, PA/Henderson) added assists on the afternoon while Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, PA/Acad. of Notre Dame) needed only one save to record her third shutout of the season.

JHU goalie Dayna Eng made six saves on the afternoon while five different Blue Jays recorded one shot apiece.

Goddu wasted little time putting Gettysburg ahead to stay, one-timing a pass from Browning past Eng with 6 minutes, 28 seconds elapsed in the game. Her second goal came in similar fashion, this time off a through pass from Eby at the 9:20 mark.

Eng made three saves to keep Johns Hopkins within 2-0 at halftime, but Latta set up Goddu in front for a 3-0 lead with 25:21 remaining. The assist was Latta’s team-leading sixth of the season.

The Blue Jays’ Leah Dudley forced a Corkhill save with 14:05 left, but the Bullet backline of Jamie Heeneke (Pennsauken, NJ/Moorestown), Michelle Marsnick (Towaco, NJ/Montville Twp.) and Sarah Latta (West Chester, PA/Henderson) closed the door down the stretch.

Gettysburg finished with a 12-5 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corners on the day.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday at Haverford. Game time is 1 p.m.
