NEW YORK – Katie Heffner (Easton, PA/Easton) recorded a team-high 20 kills as Gettysburg lost twice to nationally ranked opponents at the NYU Labor Day Invitational on Saturday.

 The Bullets (1-3) wrapped up pool play with a 3-0 loss to 16th-ranked Wisconsin-Platteville and dropped the fifth-place match to No. 3 NYU, also by a 3-0 margin.

 In the opener, Heffner put down a team-best eight kills for Gettysburg, which fell by scores of 30-12, 30-25 and 30-22. Freshman Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) added seven kills while Erica Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pine Crest) chipped in with six.

 Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) collected 20 assists to go along with six digs and five kills.

 In Saturday's finale, the host Violets took a 30-18 decision in game one, then held on by 32-30 and 31-29 scores to complete the sweep. Heffner again paced the Bullets with 12 kills while Lauren Thul (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) added seven kills and 10 digs.

 Steph Vial (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) totaled 25 digs in the two matches. Smith added 32 assists and seven digs while Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) tallied seven kills and a team-high four blocks.

 Gettysburg returns to action on Friday at home in the first day of the Battlefield Classic. The Bullets open against York (Pa.) at 5 p.m.
