FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Brad Tabor (Kinnelon,
NJ/Kinnelon) scored in the 39th minute to lead Gettysburg past Marymount
1-0 at the Mary Washington Soccer Classic on Sunday. With a 1-0-1 mark for the
weekend, the Bullets finished second to 2-0 Lynchburg in the tournament standings.
Tabor, who also netted his team’s only goal in a 1-1 tie
with Mary Washington on Saturday, and Jesse Gemberling-Johnson (Wyndmoor,
PA/Christopher Dock) each took three of Gettysburg’s 12 shots.
Bullet goalie Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown,
MA/Mt. Greylock) recorded three saves on seven Marymount shots, including
two on the Saints’ Andrew Stearns in the final six minutes to preserve
the shutout.
Minutes after
Wells-Bundtzen’s first save of the day, Tabor stripped a Marymount defender and
converted the turnover into the decisive goal with 10 minutes, 32 seconds remaining
in the first half.
Tabor’s
bid for a second goal was stopped by Brian Craddock in the 82nd
minute, one of five saves for the Saint goalie.
Gettysburg
outshot Marymount 12-7 on the afternoon and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at home against
Frostburg St. Game time is 7 p.m.
