Bryn Mawr, Pa. – Jennifer Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country Day School) recorded her seventh double-double of the season to lead Gettysburg past Bryn Mawr 68-60 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday.
Bengel led all scorers with 25 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. With her performance, she moved into second place on Gettysburg's all-time scoring list with 1,459 career points. Bengel needs only four points to surpass the career record of 1,462 points set by Ann Hymes '96.
With 12:30 remaining in the game, Bengel scored a layup and put Gettysburg ahead, 45-44. The Bullets would not trail the rest of the game.
Bengel proceeded to score six more points down the stretch to help maintain the lead while her teammates iced the game by making 8-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes.
The Owls (2-10, 0-7 CC) made a valiant effort with Julia Harris scoring 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second half. Harris also pulled down 10 rebounds and had eight steals in the game.
The Bullets (8-6, 5-2 CC) were aided by a 23-of-26 performance from the free throw line. Bengel, Megan Hartman (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley), and Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) all finished the game shooting 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Bengel scored 17 points and Eiden added eight points in the first half to pace the Bullets to a 36-33 lead at the end of the first frame.
Eiden finished the game with 15 points and Hartman ended with a career-high 13 points in the win.
Jessica Allen (12) and Katie Kent (10) each scored in double-figures for the Owls.
Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) grabbed eight rebounds for the Bullets.
The Bullets return to action on Thursday at home against Swarthmore. Game time is 6 p.m.
