Big first half helps Haverford defeat Gettysburg, 81-64

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Five Haverford players scored in double-figures to lead a balanced attack in an 81-64 win over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.

Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) scored a game-high 23 points to pace the Bullets (7-8, 3-5 CC) and he also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the loss. Fromm has scored in double-figures in six consecutive games.
 
Gettysburg jumped out to an early 10-6 lead when Julius Redd (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder) made a jumper on the right side of the floor with 15:36 remaining in the first half.
 
Haverford (6-7, 5-3 CC) answered quickly and took the lead 11-10 when Mike Fratangelo made a layup and converted a free throw after being fouled. Haverford would retain the lead for the remainder of the game.
 
The Fords proceeded to make a 28-15 run to end the first half and take a 39-25 lead into the locker room. David Nowacki scored 11 first-half points and Ray Brown chipped in 10.
 
Gettysburg played hard in the second half with Fromm scoring 15 points and Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, PA/Lower Merion) scoring 10 of his career-high 15 points in the frame. However, the Bullets could not overcome the hot-shooting Fords who made 62 percent of their shots in the half and shot 56 percent from the floor during the game.
 
Nowacki finished the game with a team-high 17 points and Brown ended with 16 for the Fords. Johnny Elefterakis grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the win.
 
Matt Whelan (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) scored 10 points for the Bullets.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at Dickinson. Game time is 8 p.m.
