Reilly, Bengel power Gettysburg past Haverford 74-60

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) scored a career-high 22 points and Jennifer Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country Day School) posted her eighth double-double (17 points, 11 rebounds) of the season to lead Gettysburg past Haverford 74-60 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
 
The key to Gettysburg's (10-6, 7-2 CC) fourth consecutive win was outscoring Haverford (2-13, 0-8 CC) 40-18 in the paint.
 
Reilly, a junior forward, dominated the game early by scoring 12 of the Bullets' first 16 points in the game, helping Gettysburg jump out to a 16-12 lead with 11:32 remaining in the first half. All of Reilly's points were scored in the paint.
 
Bengel, who became Gettysburg's all-time leading scorer on Thursday, then took over and scored eight of her 10 first-half points in the final six minutes of the frame, giving the Bullets a 41-32 halftime lead. Kathleen Abels kept Haverford in the game by tallying 13 first-half points.
 
Reilly continued her first-half success by scoring six more points in the first six minutes of the second half, helping push Gettysburg's lead to 51-35.
 
Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) made a layup and Amy Tarbell (Westminster, MD/East Greenwich [RI]) followed with two free throws to give the Bullets their largest lead of the game at 55-35 with 11:22 remaining.
 
Erica Juliano fought to help Haverford close the gap by scoring nine points in the final 10 minutes of the game.
 
With 4:07 remaining and the score 65-51, Bengel proceeded to score seven consecutive points in the span of 85 seconds to put the game out of reach.
 
Marshall finished the game with 12 points for the Bullets. Abels ended with 19 points and Juliano finished with 13 in the loss.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at Dickinson. Game time is 6 p.m.
