Box Score
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Muhlenberg (16-2, 11-2) used double-doubles from both Meghan Courtney and Lacie Smith to pick up their 11th Centennial Conference (CC) win of the season over Gettysburg (11-8, 8-4), 38-52, on Saturday.
After trailing by two at halftime, Jennifer Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country School) hit a three pointer to open second-half scoring and put the Bullets up by one. Layups from Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) and Bengel in a span of 21 seconds gave Gettysburg a five point edge with 17 minutes and 39 seconds left to play.
Lauren Boyle single-handedly narrowed the gap to within one on a layup and two made free throws before Smith converted a layup to regain a Mule advantage.
Megan Hartman (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) knotted the game at 28 from the charity stripe after getting fouled in the act of shooting.
A Stephanie Coluccini layup staked Muhlenberg to a two point lead before the Bullets managed to deadlock it again, this time on an Amy Tarbell (Westminster, MD/East Greenwich[RI]) layup with 12 minutes and 29 seconds to go.
Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) hit two free throws 30 seconds later to reclaim a two point Gettysburg advantage.
Courtney was fouled making the Mules' next basket and with her free throw, Muhlenberg took back the lead. Successive layups from Boyle and Smith stretched the Mule lead to five, and they would not relinquish their advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Tarbell pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds in the losing effort. Eiden led the Bullets in scoring with 10 points. Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) and Reilly each finished with three steals.
For Muhlenberg, Courtney's double-double came on 21 points and 14 boards while Smith had 11 of each. Courtney also finished with five blocks.
