Gettysburg uses balanced attack to beat Franklin & Marshall, 75-67

LANCASTER, Pa. – Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) recorded a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) to lead Gettysburg past Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday.
 
Reilly tied her career-high of 18 points in the win as she led four Bullets who scored in double-figures. Jennifer Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country Day School) and Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) each scored 16 points while Megan Hartman (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) added 14.
 
Bengel continued her attack on Gettysburg's record book. She moved into second place on the all-time field goals made list (573) and into third place on the all-time rebounding list (878), passing Kelly Geise '95. Bengel needs 34 rebounds to break the career mark of 912 set by Megan Malloy '99.
 
With the win, Gettysburg (12-8, 9-4) snapped a two game losing skid and moved into a fourth-place tie in the CC standings. Franklin & Marshall (5-13, 3-9 CC) has lost six of their last seven games.
 
In the first half, Hartman and Marshall led the Bullets. Hartman was 5-of-7 from the floor as she scored 12 points to lead all-scorers in the half and Marshall was 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point arc to end the half with nine points.
 
Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) and Reilly dominated the boards in the first stanza, each grabbing six rebounds.

Dana Johns scored 12 first half points to help keep the Diplomats in the game. They trailed 39-32 at the end of the frame.

Reilly paced the Bullets in the second half. She scored 10 points while Bengel and Eiden added eight in the frame.

Marshall hit another 3-pointer, giving her a career-high four made 3-pointers in the game.

Gettysburg outlasted the Diplomats strong scoring effort by Johns (10 points) and Christy Strunk (11 points) in the second half to gain the 75-67 victory.

The Bullets went 18-of-21 from the free throw line, making 12 more points from the charity stripe than Franklin & Marshall which went 6-of-9 at the line.

Brittany Braxton led the Diplomats with 11 rebounds, including eight offensive rebounds in the loss.
 
The Bullets return to action on Saturday at Washington (Md.). Game time is 2 p.m.
