Volleyball hits .468 in 3-0 Victory Over Ursinus

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - On senior day, senior libero Steph Vial (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), senior middle hitter Caitlyn Barr (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and senior middle hitter Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led Gettysburg to a 3-0 (30-12, 30-18, 30-11) sweep over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon at Bream Gymnasium. Gettysburg hit .468 as a team led by freshman outside hitter Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) with 11 kills and a .647 hitting percentage.

Gettysburg won its fourth consecutive match and improves to 17-8 overall and 8-1 in the CC. Ursinus drops to 2-19 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

With Gettysburg leading 6-5 in the first game, the Bullets went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-5 lead. Junior right side Lauren Thul (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) had two aces during the rally. Gettysburg later won 10 consecutive points to increase its lead to 23-6. Senior middle hitter Caitlyn Barr (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had three kills and freshman setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) served two aces during the run. Gettysburg went on to win game one 30-12.

In game two, Gettysburg took control early with a 12-3 advantage on the strength of four kills by Mercier. The Bullets increased their lead to 19-7 before Ursinus went on a 10-8 run to pull the game within 10 points. However, Gettysburg closed the game with a kill by junior outside hitter Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton) for a 30-18 win.

Once again, the Bullets jumped out to an early lead in game three. With Krampf serving, Gettysburg reeled off 15-straight points to open the game. Krampf served two aces during the run. Mercier had four kills, and freshman right side Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) accounted for three points by kill. Ursinus made a late rally, but the Bullets closed the match with a 30-11 win in game three.

Other Bullets with high hitting percentages were Rickabaugh (.800), Krampf (.750), Thul (.636) and Heffner (.500). Vial led Gettysburg with 16 digs. Barr tallied a team-high seven blocks, and Krampf led the Bullets with 35 assists.

The Bullets return to action on Tuesday at Dickinson. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
