GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior guard Katy Powell hit a buzzer-beater from just above the foul line as time expired to lead McDaniel to a 54-52 win in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Thursday night at Bream Gym. Powell had a team-high 12 points in the contest.

With 3.6 seconds remaining, the Green Terror (5-2, 2-1 CC) gained possession of the ball following a Gettysburg (5-3, 3-1 CC) turnover. McDaniel was forced to go the length of the floor, which it did by throwing a pass to junior guard Robbin Gregg at half court. Gregg eluded a Bullets' defender and found Powell near the top of the key. She made a spin move and released the ball as the buzzer sounded, banking it home for the win.

Bullets' senior captain Katie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) had a 13-point, 15-rebound double-double, and freshman guard Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) added career highs with 13 points and seven steals.

Gettysburg dominated the first half of a game marred by 45 combined turnovers and 49 points off of turnovers.

McDaniel senior forward Allison Biggs hit a layup at the 14:39 mark of the first half to tie the game at 8-8. Gettysburg went on a 7-0 run over the next three minutes keyed by five points from Reilly. Green Terror freshman guard Sally Grace ended the run with a 3-pointer, but the Bullets gradually built to a 17-point lead when junior guard Megan Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) made two free throws with just over three minutes left in the half. Grace and Powell buried 3-pointers, and the teams exchanged a Gettysburg basket for a pair of McDaniel free throws to get the game to halftime at 33-22 in favor of the home squad.

Coming out after the break, the Green Terror quickly exploded for a 15-1 run over the first 9:38. Biggs accounted for five points, and senior center Theresa Hess added four, including a jumper at the 14:35 mark that gave McDaniel its first lead since the game was 2-0.

Gettysburg tied it up at 37-37 on a trey by freshman forward Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls). The Green Terror was able to retain the lead for much of the game's duration, but it never grew larger than four points.

With McDaniel leading 47-44 and just over three minutes to go, Fields hit a jumper, and Reilly added a pair of freebies. Senior Heather Thompson got the lead back for the visitors with two free throws, but Drechsler got the ball on the left wing and dribbled around the top of the key and down the right side of the lane for a layup that made it 50-49 for Gettysburg.

Nearly a minute later, McDaniel junior guard Courtney Gogolinski got an offensive rebound in the paint and made a left-handed hook shot to get the lead back. After a missed triple by Gettysburg, Thompson made the first of two free throws. Fields got the rebound, and Hartman made a layup to tie the game at 52-52.

The Green Terror turned it over off the inbounds play, and following a Bullets' timeout, Gettysburg turned it over setting up the decisive play.

The Bullets will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Haverford, Pa., to take on the Fords in a conference contest. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
