Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Julie Miller scored 21 points and added a game-high 18 rebounds to lead Johns Hopkins to a 63-59 OT win over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday.

Both the Bullets (15-9, 12-5 CC) and Blue Jays (19-5, 15-2) have clinched CC playoff berths, but Johns Hopkins remains in first place with the win.

Jennifer Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country Day School) led Gettysburg with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. She moved into second place on Gettysburg's all-time rebounding list (909) with tonight's performance and needs only four rebounds to move into first place past Megan Malloy '99 (912).

The Blue Jays had a 53-51 lead with 20 seconds remaining in regulation and were at the line to shoot 1-and-1. However, they didn't get the chance to increase their lead because Miller stepped in the lane early for a lane violation.

With the possession belonging to Gettysburg after the turnover, Megan Hartman (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) took the ball and drove the lane and made a layup with 7.8 seconds on the clock, tying the game 53-53. The Bullet defense didn't give the Blue Jays a good look at the basket and forced overtime.

Miller started the overtime period by making a layup 18 seconds into the frame. Bengel answered quickly with a jumper to tie the game.

Miller proceeded to make two free throws after being fouled by Bengel with 4:08 remaining, giving John Hopkins a 57-55 lead. Katie Kimball would increase their lead to four on a jumper with 2:42 to go.

The Bullets would fight to within one, 60-59, on a Bengel layup with 1:33 on the clock, but the Blue Jays would ice the game by making 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch.

Johns Hopkins opened the game on a 16-4 run keyed by eight points from Amanda Leese. The Bullets would battle to cut the lead to 30-22 at the half. Bengel scored nine for Gettysburg in the half and Miller led the Blue Jays with 11.

The Bullets would open the second half on a 10-2 run started by a jumper from Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood). The rest of the half would see nine ties and two lead changes with Gettysburg forcing overtime with 7.8 seconds remaining.

Neither team shot well from the floor on the evening. Johns Hopkins was 24-of-80 and Gettysburg was 23-of-70, leaving plenty of rebounds to go around. The Blue Jays won the battle of the boards, enjoying a 59-47 advantage on the glass, including 30 offensive rebounds.

Leese grabbed 10 rebounds and Kristin Phillips had seven rebounds for Johns Hopkins. Amy Tarbell (Westminster, MD/East Greenwich [RI]) pulled down 11 rebounds for the Bullets while Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) and Reilly each grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
