Gettysburg powers past Ursinus, 62-42

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jennifer Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country Day School) scored 18 points and Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) tallied 15 points to lead Gettysburg past Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday.
 
The Bullets (14-8, 11-4 CC) have won three straight games while the Bears (12-10, 9-7 CC) have lost two in a row.
 
Gettysburg used a 46-33 rebounding advantage to power past Ursinus. Bengel and Reilly each grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Megan Hartman (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) tied her career high of eight rebounds in the win.

Ursinus jumped out to an early 7-2 lead on a 3-pointer by Jenna Whylings 4:34 into the first half.

Gettysburg rallied back to tie the game at nine on a Reilly layup. Hartman would then give the Bullets an 11-9 lead on a pair of free throws with 13:28 remaining in the half. Gettysburg would not trail the rest of the game.
 
The Bullets would open up a 29-19 halftime lead with the help of 10 first half points from Reilly and a pair of 3-pointers from both Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) and Margaret White (Burke, VA/James W. Robinson).
 
Ursinus opened the second half on a 14-6 run to close the gap to 35-33 with 11:05 remaining. Whylings hit two jumpers and Mary Kate Daley scored six points during the run for the Bears. However, that was as close as Ursinus would get.
 
Gettysburg closed the game by outscoring the Bears 21-9 in the final 11 minutes of the game. The run was started by two Bengel foul shots and a 3-pointer by Reilly to push the lead to 40-33. Bengel would proceed to score 11 more points down the stretch to preserve the Gettysburg advantage.
 
With the first of two foul shots Bengel made with 47 seconds remaining, she scored her 1,600th career point.

Bengel only needs 18 rebounds to break the Gettysburg all-time rebounding record currently held by Megan Malloy '99 (912).
 
Marshall ended the game with 12 points and White finished with eight.
 
Whylings led the Bears with 12 points and Daley finished the game with 10 points. Daley only needs nine more points to eclipse 1,000 in her career.
 
Daley and Molly Guntli each grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday at Swarthmore. Game time is 2 p.m.
