Hot shooting Ursinus downs Gettysburg, 91-66

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Mike McGarvey (12 points, 13 assists) and Matt Fabian (12 points, 11 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles to lead Ursinus past Gettysburg 91-66 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday.
 
With the win, Ursinus (17-5, 13-2 CC) snapped Gettysburg's (13-9, 9-6 CC) six-game winning streak.

The Bears shot 60.7 percent from the floor and had five players score in double figures on the night. Joining McGarvey and Fabian, Nick Shattuck scored a game-high 22 points, Will Furey added 16 points, and Brian McEvily tallied 13 points.
 
Mike Spadafora (Richboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) led the Bullets with 20 points while reigning CC Player of the Week Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) had 13 points and a team-high four rebounds.

To open the game, McGarvey assisted Ursinus' first seven field goals as the Bears jumped out to a 19-8 lead with 13:02 remaining in the first half.
 
Ursinus would push its lead to 41-21 on a jumper by Fabian at the 3:56 mark. Gettysburg cut the lead to 47-32 at the half with the help of two 3-pointers by Spadafora.
 
Ursinus shot 63.3 percent from the field in the first half and was led by Shattuck's 16 points.
 
Gettysburg opened the second half on a 8-5 run to cut the lead to 52-40 with 15:36 remaining on a layup by Julius Redd (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder). However, that was as close as the Bullets would get as Ursinus would pull away.

The Bears hot-shooting did not cool off in the second half, shooting 57.7 percent. They proceeded to go on a 25-11 run to make the score 77-51 with 6:33 to go. During the run Furey scored eight points.

Ursinus would then cruise to the 91-66 victory.
 
Matt Whelan (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) scored 12 points and Brian Sateja (Morristown, NJ/Delbarton School) added eight points for the Bullets. Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, PA/Lower Merion) dished out a career-high four assists in the loss.
 
Fabian's 11 rebounds were a game-high as Ursinus posted a 39-22 advantage on the glass.
 
The Bullets return to action on Saturday at Swarthmore. Game time is 4 p.m.
