Gettysburg vs. Utica Box Score
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Gettysburg scored twice in the first inning, once in the second and twice in the third en route to a 7-1 win over Alvernia in its first game on Tuesday and came back with an 8-1 victory over Utica in non-conference action. The Bullets have won four straight games since opening the season with a one-run loss on Sunday.
Freshman hurler Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) returned to the mound after tying the Centennial Conference record with 14 strikeouts on Monday and hurled another gem. She threw a complete game, allowing just one run in the bottom of the second inning when Alvernia junior Allyson McReady singled home a run.
The Bullets (4-1) already led the game 3-0 at that point, however. Freshman Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) and sophomore Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) both scored on a single by sophomore Abbe Miller (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) in the top of the first, and junior Meg Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) drove in a run in the second. Sagaities hit a solo home run in the third, and Gettysburg added another run in that inning and two more in the top of the sixth.
That would be plenty of offense for Rubino, who punched out eight more hitters after her historic outing on Monday.
In the second game, senior Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) picked up her second win in as many days. Her teammates back her up with another solid outing at the plate, scoring eight runs on 12 hits. Eiden and Miller both scored in the bottom of the first to give Kiry all the runs she would need, but the Bullets kept scoring. Gettysburg tallied three runs each in the second and sixth innings, and the top four spots and the bottom two positions in the lineup all scored at least once.
Freshman Tayler Cianciotta (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) singled and scored in the second-inning rally, and classmate Rachael Soule (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) pinch hit for her in the sixth. She drew a walk and came around to score.
Gettysburg will return to action with two more games on Wednesday when it will try to extend its winning streak. The Bullets take on Hilbert at 9:30 a.m. and Russell Sage at 11:30 a.m.
